Therese Rein opens Mercy Foundation Offices

31 May 2010

On Tuesday, 18 May, the Mercy Foundation celebrated the Opening and Blessing of our new home in the Poche Centre, 40 Rocklands Rd North Sydney. Our guest of honour was Ms Therese Rein. Ms Rein reminded us all of the reality of homelessness in Australia, its impact on individuals and families. Ms Rein is the patron of the Australian Common Ground Alliance. In her speech, Ms Rein spoke expertly about permanent supportive housing as a means of ending homelessness for many chronically homeless Australians.
Justice Jenny Boland, Chair of the Mercy Foundation, spoke about the history of the Foundation and the legacy of the Foundation initiated by the North Sydney Sisters of Mercy.
During the evening, the Mercy Foundation launched its new DVD, which explains what the Foundation supports and funds. In this, Felicity Reynolds, CEO of the Foundation, spoke about the Foundation’s approach to ending homelessness. Using innovative, evidence based approaches, the Mercy Foundation works with government, other NGOs and community groups to help solve homelessness. Common Ground is an example of a model of permanent supportive housing and one that the Mercy Foundation has provided leadership on in NSW and nationally.
Over 150 guests joined us in our celebrations. With thanks to Austins Wines, Serena Sanderson Catering and Mrs Dee Perry for their generous support.
