Forced labour conviction in Brisbane

A couple have been convicted of a number of offences related to the trafficking and exploitation of a Fijian woman. The couple brought the woman to Australia, confiscated her passport, forced her to work long hours and denied her medical assistance when needed.

In the Brisbane District Court, the jury found the pair guilty of forced labour offences and they pleaded guilty to harbouring an illegal non citizen.

One of the pair was convicted of an additional human trafficking offence.
