Mercy Foundation Youth Awards 2018 Winners

Thank you to all the students who entered the 2018 Mercy Youth Awards Photographic Competition. We had over 170 very strong entries from across New South Wales and Victoria. This year, entrants were asked to submit a photo and write a short statement encapsulating what “home” meant to them.

Congratulations to the following winners:

First prize: $700 to the winning entrant and $700 to the wining school

The competition also required entrants to correctly answer three questions:
What are the key causes of homelessness in Australia?
Poverty and unaffordable housing are the primary causes of homelessness in Australia.

How many people sleep rough on any given night?
8200 people

What solves homelessness?
For most people, affordable, appropriate housing solves homelessness.
